Ice Cream Party
Toppet and I initially planned an affordable and low-cost party as it was the most convenient option for us in terms of budget and time resource but we ended up having an Ice Cream Party. I think party planning is very time consuming if you’re going to be hands-on and not hire a party planner or organizer. So think Max’s, Jollibee and McDonald’s party packages, you know the drill. And since these are pretty mainstream and they are much alike, (except the one we attended at Jollibee Greenhills), we chose to celebrate at Racks because we haven’t attended in one.
Then one lazy midnight while we were binge-watching and as I open my Instagram (the only me-time I have coz baby was sleeping!) I saw this cute Ice Cream Cart with really luscious ice cream and toppings. It’s Dear Dairy Ice Cream. Then, I thought about how our guest list was growing because I wanted to extend my gratitude to those who were there during my pregnancy, those who threw baby showers, wished and prayed the best for me and my baby when I was confined at the hospital…
And while I was confined at the hospital, weeping sulking because I was on bed rest (peeing in a bedpan, TMI sorry.), I ate ice cream every day and it made my mood better and made my baby gain weight.. So no questions asked! Except for my husband whom I need to get an approval from..haha ($$)
And being a hands-on working mom, I had this thought that if I can do this at work, why can’t I do it with my own child… why the hell not.
This meant so much to me because a lot of times I questioned myself “what did I get myself into?” (while I was cutting party flags or twisting paper tassel with one eye open). Because I could just pay this party package or hire an event planner and everyone could be fed and get this day done and over with, right? So every night I try to get inspiration from Pinterest, Google and etc. for Ice Cream Party.
It looks easy but it takes so much hard work. There were also times that I couldn’t play with Kai, so I guess it takes sacrifice too. With all the things running inside a full-time working moms’ brain.. Get this, we lose our minds too.
So again, we thank you, thank you, thank you for celebrating this milestone with us we appreciate your presence more than the gifts you have given us, and thank you, my dear husband, for being so supportive (and helping out with the printables) 🙂
Special thanks to our suppliers:
Erney Arcilla – Hosting and Sound System
Erney is a fun and entertaining host. He has a commanding presence with kids plus he has two assistant which made the program flow so smooth. He was super cool even though we started late because we only had less than 10 kids to start with. I heard good feedback from our guests, and to quote some of them “..super enjoy ako, masaya party at yung nag emcee galing niya.” and while he was hosting a game, one told me “ I like him already!.”
Yellowberry’s – Birthday Cake and Sugar Cookies
They went beyond with my request. I asked them if there was a way to make the cookies stand and when they got back to me they said they made it stand at no extra cost! I also asked if they can make the top tier in carrot flavor (so Kai can eat this) and the bottom tier in chocolate flavor (so mommy can eat this 😛 ) and boy they did! They were very easy to talk to. They responded to my inquiries in a timely manner. Even though we did not meet in person our transaction was very smooth. I would definitely recommend them.
Dear Dairy Ice Cream
This is the first supplier that I booked. Everyone indulged in ice cream because I saw a lot of them going back for another round. Guests didn’t even notice that there were still Strawberry and Dark Chocolate popsicles available which by the way is super creamy (not watery). It was just too bad I didn’t get to finish my Pistachio ice cream. haha. Highly recommended to friends and family (and please invite me so I can indulge too!)
Kayle @ Work – Event Photographer
Kit of Kayle@work did a great job of covering my baby’s party. She was super nice and accommodating. She came an hour earlier before the event which I appreciate so much. Makes me want to cover kiddie birthdays too. I mean look at the kids!
Greatshot Photobooth
Shiela of SM&DJ Photobooth referred me to Greatshot Photobooth. They sent me a .psd layout and we incorporated our theme. As for my baby’s photo, we had a mini studio photoshoot at home. 🙂
Now for the catering. I won’t name them here because I got disappointed. I wanted the rectangular guest table so bad that I did not expect this to happen. Everything was okay, food was delicious. However, I was surprised to see round tables when I arrived at the venue. I specifically requested, which they agreed to during our meeting at their head office, with my emails and confirmation calls (which happened 2 days before), for RECTANGULAR GUEST TABLES!! I didn’t want to ruin the day so I just went ahead with it. Everything would have been perfect. The only reason why I chose them is they were the only caterers who told me that they can provide what I want (yes! rectangular tables!).
I spoke to the manager two days after and he was nice enough to apologize and explain what happened. He offered to compensate for the damage by paying me a certain amount and by giving me a discount on our next transaction (the latter I accepted). I’d still recommend them to others because I appreciate how the manager handled and accepted their mistake graciously. Thank you still.
I would also like to thank Nona, my good friend, who organized while I was at the church during Kai’s Christening. Tin and Christian for helping me out with the party flags while we hung out at home. 🙂 Thank you, Mom, for rescuing us from chores 2 nights before the event.
To our Lord God for blessing us the perfect gift, our little bundle of joy, Kai.
